How to Pick the Right Plan

  • Check your usage. Look at your last 12 electric bills. The rate at your typical kWh level is what matters — some plans look cheap at 500 kWh but spike at 1,000.
  • Fixed vs variable. Fixed rates protect you from summer price spikes. Variable rates can be cheaper in mild months but risky in August.
  • Read the EFL. The Electricity Facts Label shows the true all-in price including TDU delivery. Always click "View EFL" before signing up.
  • Cancellation fees. Most fixed plans charge $150–$400 to cancel early. If you're moving within a year, choose a shorter term or month-to-month.

Texas Electricity FAQs

Why do rates differ by zip code?

Each zip is served by a specific TDU (Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP, TNMP). Delivery charges are built into the quoted rate and vary by utility.

Is my area deregulated?

Most of Texas is, but Austin Energy, CPS Energy (San Antonio), and rural co-ops are not. If plans appear for your zip, you're in a deregulated area.

How long does switching take?

Typically 1–2 billing cycles (14–30 days). Your lights stay on — there's no interruption to service.
